IMPACT OF SATELLITE RE-ENTRIES AND ROCKET LAUNCHES ON THE EARTH ATMOSPHERE EARTH OBSERVATION MONITORING ARCHITECTURE CONCEPT STUDY - EXPRO PLUS

The European Earth Observation (EO) Ecosystem is a cross-cutting vision for the future of Space Earth Observation, addressing future opportunities, challenges as well as trends and drivers which potentially impact the EO Ecosystem in the time horizon 2050+.Embedded in this framework, the activity "Impact of satellite re-entries and rocket launches on the Earth Atmosphere - Earth Observation monitoring architecture concept study" will help to prepare the foundation to understand how space debris impacts the atmospheric composition and climate system. Therefore, the study scope is to assess which observation capacities are already in place (e.g. on current / planned EO missions -or atmospheric models, databases) and illustrate their fit-for-purpose. Suggest based on the findings a future impact and monitoring Earth Observation architecture concept as well as make recommendations for future scientific / technical studies and for programmatic decisions.
